About Simpler Savory
Welcome to SimplerSavory, a high-protein recipe blog built for people who want to eat well without spending hours in the kitchen.
I’m Rachel Whitmore
I’m a recipe developer, certified nutrition coach, and mom of three based in Charlotte, North Carolina. I created SimplerSavory in 2021 after years of struggling to find recipes that were high in protein, quick to prepare, and actually tasted like something my family would eat.
Before starting this site, I spent eight years working in corporate wellness, helping employees build healthier habits around food and movement. I loved the work, but I kept running into the same problem: people wanted to eat more protein, but every recipe they found was either bland, complicated, or required ingredients they’d never heard of.
I started posting my own weeknight dinners on Instagram in late 2020. They were simple—grilled chicken with roasted sweet potatoes, Greek yogurt bowls, turkey meatball sheet pans. Nothing fancy. But people kept asking for the recipes. By spring 2021, I launched SimplerSavory.com to share them in one place.
What You’ll Find Here
Every recipe on this site is built around one principle: protein comes first, then we add flavor and balance.
I use ingredients you can find at any regular grocery store—chicken breast, ground turkey, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, canned beans, tofu. Nothing exotic, nothing expensive.
The site is organized around the meals that matter most to busy families: high-protein breakfasts that keep you full past 10 a.m., quick lunches you can meal prep on Sunday, weeknight dinners ready in 30 minutes, and protein-packed snacks for the 3 p.m. slump.
I also share high-protein versions of comfort food—mac and cheese made with cottage cheese, protein pancakes that actually taste like pancakes, and cookie dough bites sweetened with dates. Because eating 140 grams of protein a day shouldn’t feel like a chore.
How I Develop Recipes
I test every recipe at least three times before publishing. The first round is for flavor and texture. The second is to simplify—can I cut a step, reduce an ingredient, shave five minutes off? The third is the family test. If my kids won’t eat it or my husband says “it’s fine,” it doesn’t go on the site.
I write the recipes in plain language, with clear steps and substitution notes so anyone can follow along.
My Approach to Protein
I’m not a doctor or a registered dietitian. I’m a certified nutrition coach (NASM-CPT, Precision Nutrition Level 1) who reads the research and applies it in my own kitchen. My perspective is practical: most people aren’t eating enough protein, especially women over 30, busy parents, and anyone trying to maintain muscle while managing a hectic schedule.
I don’t promote restrictive diets. I don’t demonize carbs or fats. I simply build meals where protein is the anchor, and everything else fills in around it. You’ll find pasta on this site. You’ll find bread. You’ll find dessert. It all fits.
Beyond the Kitchen
When I’m not developing recipes, I’m usually at the gym (I strength train four days a week), driving my kids to swim practice, or experimenting with a new overnight oats combination that I’ll inevitably photograph before anyone is allowed to eat it.
I also write a weekly newsletter where I share our family’s actual meal plan—not the polished version, but the real one with the backup frozen pizza night included.
